Auction: Football Locker Room Sign

For more than a quarter century, this sign marked the entrance to the Northwestern Football locker room inside the John L. Evans Building at Ryan Field.

From 1997 through 2023, generations of Wildcats passed this sign during some of the most memorable moments in Northwestern football history. Players walked beneath it before taking the field, returned past it at halftime, and gathered behind it following victories that helped define an era of Wildcat football.

The locker room served Northwestern teams led by head coaches Gary Barnett, Randy Walker, Pat Fitzgerald and David Braun, becoming the emotional center of the program on game days at Ryan Field.

It was also the setting for some of the stadium's greatest postgame celebrations. None was more memorable than Northwestern's legendary 54–51 victory over Michigan in 2000. The offensive shootout became one of the defining games of the era and helped accelerate changes in offensive philosophy that would reshape the modern college football game.

Removed from the John L. Evans Building as part of the transformation of Ryan Field, this authentic locker room sign carries the visible wear of more than 25 seasons inside the Wildcats' football home.

More than a sign, this is a surviving piece of the room where generations of Northwestern football history were made.
